That Oakey goodness

Ever wondered why Whiskey and Wood often both have that Oakey finish. It's because it both tastes and feels soooo good. Oak flooring is the staple of the wood floor world. It is tough, hard wearing and above all, it's spectacular to look at. I challenge you, get yourself an Oak floor (if you don't already have one, here's a reason to) and stare. The grains swirl across the floor like a ripple in a lake. Just track the spirals and waves, you'll be lost for hours!

Oak comes in a variety of styles, ranging from reclaimed, to engineered, from railway to vintage and it's all there for you to choose from. Now, Art of Clean doesn't install wood flooring...yet, but we do strip it, sand it, care for it and even on occasion, repair it. So, if you are thinking of getting an Oak wood floor and simply can't decide which, speak to a professional, ask Ben at Floors2Go - Cambridge, get in touch with the lads at Mackays, or you can simply call us and ask for Pierre; he'll talk your ear off for hours on the benefits of having a solid wood floor.

And just remember, nothing lasts forever...unless you care for it. Wherever you buy your flooring, protect it, be sensitive to it's needs and if you like, you can always trust us with it, after all, it's our business to finesse your flooring.

Hadstock village Hall ~ Oak floor sanding and oiling

This beautiful village hall in Hadstock, near Linton in Cambridgeshire,  was recently Lottery Funded to have a re-vamp.  The hall is regularly used by the locals and was in needed of some serious TLC.  The floors in particular we're in desperate need of some maintenance after decades of use.

Over two days we Sanded and Oiled the main hall and stage.

Sanding was proving difficult at first as the dirt and old oil were melting to the sandpaper, this meant we were having to change the sandpaper more often than usual.

As a gesture of good faith we also gave a complimentary sand and lacquer the small side room.

See below some images of the process:

You can see there was quite a lot of paint transfer on the steps of the stage.  This sanded away nicely.
Oiling really bought out the beautiful colour of this old Oak.

Below you can see the striking wood floor restoration we achieved.

If you need your wood floor sanded and refinished contact Art of Clean for more information and we can discuss the service we offer.  Call us on 01223 863632 or see our website www.artofclean.co.uk to find out more.

What can I do with my newly discovered wood floor?

Discovering that a beautiful wood floor lies just beneath a shabby old carpet can be really exciting, and it’s at this stage that you will do a search on-line for a professional sanding company.

Before you search on-line for sanding company you will need to consider a few things:
• Is the floor worth sanding and which service do you require?
Before getting anyone to carry out the work on your newly discovered floor you will need to check out their credentials:
• Are they insured? Ask to see their insurance papers if unsure
• Have the had professional training? Check out their certificates
• Do they have experience? Ask to meet previous customers, check out references if necessary
• Do the company offer a guarantee? Make sure you ask for this in writing
• What finish do they recommend? These are some photos of a floor we recently restored with the above type of damage.
The floor was strip filled (this is the gap between the planks) and then we filled them strip with resin
You will need to think about what type of wood flooring you have. If you have a traditional wood floor and there are large gaps between the boards then it is likely to have been made from pine. If your boards are butted neatly together then they are likely to have been made from oak, but a professional opinion would be recommended at this point. If in doubt then ask Art of Clean for advice, we have specialist wood flooring experts in our team.

A pine floor is very soft and is not exceptional quality, whereas oak on the other hand if looked after well will serve you well for many years.
